According to Nivo News, the meeting was part of the Commission’s efforts to reinforce compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and INEC regulations in preparation for upcoming elections. INEC explained that the engagement followed multiple correspondences from various PDP quarters seeking the Commission’s intervention on internal party matters.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan stated that the meeting provided a platform for open dialogue, aiming to resolve conflicting communications within the party and establish a common understanding on key issues. He reiterated that all INEC actions are guided strictly by the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the Commission’s regulations, which form the legal framework for its operations.
Professor Amupitan emphasized that the Commission’s statutory responsibility to monitor political parties and conduct elections underpins all its decisions. He highlighted the importance of early stakeholder engagement ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026, and other elections later in the year.
The INEC Chairman assured party leaders of the Commission’s transparency and commitment to uphold the law at all times. He encouraged frank and constructive discussions, expressing confidence that the meeting would help address outstanding issues and promote a coordinated approach among party stakeholders, ensuring smooth and credible elections.
