“I Almost Quit: Lai Mohammed Opens Up About His Toughest Decision As Minister”.
Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has revealed that the toughest decision he faced during his tenure in the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari was the moment he nearly resigned. The disclosure came on Wednesday in Abuja during the launch of his book, Headlines & Soundbites: Media Moments That Defined an Administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Mohammed explained that the book provides an insider perspective on how the Buhari administration’s narratives were shaped, defended, and communicated amid crises, misinformation, and intense public scrutiny. He said his extended involvement in government decision-making placed a duty on him to preserve an accurate historical record and clarify longstanding misconceptions.
He further noted that his decision to document his experiences stemmed from the belief that Africans should tell their own stories to avoid historical distortions. The publication aims to offer context, correct misunderstandings, and provide firsthand insights from his years in office.
“For almost eight years, I was at the center of government communication, crisis management, national orientation, culture, and tourism. I saw how decisions were made and how misinformation often overshadowed facts,” Mohammed stated.
Reviewing the book, former presidential spokesman Segun Adeniyi observed that contentious issues, including the Twitter suspension and the #EndSARS protests, were presented more like legal briefs than conventional historical narratives.
Also commenting, current Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, praised Lai Mohammed’s contributions, noting that he was among the most-criticized ministers during the Buhari administration due to his defense of government policies.
Halima Buhari, daughter of the late president, added that her father was fully aware of both the criticisms and the appreciation of his administration while in office, representing the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari.
