Lagos Woman Arrested For Faking Kidnapping, Extorting N2.5 Million From Husband.
According to Nivo News, a 26-year-old Lagos woman, identified as Misturah, has been arrested for allegedly faking her own kidnapping to extort N2.5 million from her husband. The incident came to light after a lawyer reported on November 24 that his brother’s wife had been abducted by unknown armed men.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A source within the Lagos State Police Command disclosed that the purported kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N10 million, later reducing it to N3 million during negotiations. Eventually, a sum of N2.5 million was paid, but the kidnappers initially refused to release the victim.
Police deployed a team to track the alleged kidnappers, but before they could locate the hideout, the victim was reportedly released and reunited with her family. Misturah was invited to the police headquarters the following day, where she provided a detailed statement claiming she had been abducted by six armed men in a silver Toyota Venza and that her iPhone 12 Pro Max had been seized. She stated the ransom money was first deposited into her account before being handed over to the kidnappers.
Further investigations raised suspicions, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Daniel, in Ede, Osun State, on December 3. He admitted that Misturah had used his SIM card to register a WhatsApp account through which the ransom negotiations were conducted. Daniel explained that Misturah informed him the number would be used to resolve personal issues with her husband.
Confronted with Daniel’s confession, Misturah reportedly admitted orchestrating the kidnapping to extort money from her husband. Investigators also recovered the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which she had sold for N380,000.
The Lagos State Police confirmed the arrest, with spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi stating that investigations are ongoing and that appropriate charges would be filed upon completion. The case adds to a series of self-orchestrated kidnappings recently uncovered in Lagos, including a 2023 case where a couple staged an abduction to raise funds to repurchase their home.
