According to Nivo News, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested over 300 suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, secessionist activities, rape, and other serious crimes, while rescuing 35 kidnapped victims and recovering more than 2,000 arms and ammunition, including explosives and other dangerous items.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, revealed these figures during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Awka, noting that over 60 stolen vehicles, including motorcycles, were recovered, and several criminal cases were successfully prosecuted with convictions secured.

Orutugu explained that these arrests and recoveries were achieved throughout the year through innovative strategies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening crime prevention techniques. He added that crime patterns fluctuated during the year due to socio-economic factors and evolving security dynamics across the country.

Despite these challenges, the command recorded a noticeable reduction in violent crimes, cult-related activities, armed robbery, and kidnapping in most parts of the state through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and the dedication of security personnel.

CP Orutugu highlighted the role of joint security teams, which include the Police, Department of Security Service, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, and other operatives, in rescuing kidnapped victims and disrupting criminal networks. He noted that major successes included the re-arrest of suspects involved in the killing of a former member of the State Assembly, Justice Azuka, in Onitsha, as well as the suspects behind the murder of three Cameroonian nationals, whose bodies were subsequently recovered.

He acknowledged certain challenges faced by the command, including evolving criminal tactics, occasional public non-cooperation, and misinformation, but emphasized that these obstacles have strengthened the command’s resolve to improve operational effectiveness.

Orutugu reiterated that the use of knock-out substances and other explosives remains prohibited in Anambra State, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities. He also assured the public that robust security measures have been deployed ahead of the festive season to ensure safe celebrations.

The CP credited the cooperation and support of Anambra residents, community policing structures, inter-agency collaborations, traditional leaders, and local vigilante groups as key contributors to the command’s achievements. He highlighted the disruption of multiple kidnapping syndicates, dismantling of criminal hideouts, and the successful conduct of major events, including the official visit of the Nigerian President and local elections, as evidence of improved security in the state.

As the year draws to a close, Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to deepening community partnerships, strengthening capacity, and intensifying operations to ensure a safer and more secure Anambra State. He also expressed gratitude to the state government, sister security agencies, the media, and residents for their support and collaboration.
