Defence Minister Demands Swift Action As Nigeria Faces Escalating Security Threats.

General Musa made the call on Monday during the opening of the 10th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2025 in Lagos. He described the gathering as an essential platform to evaluate the Nigerian Army’s operational readiness, professionalism, and alignment with national security priorities.
While acknowledging that recent military operations have weakened terrorist and criminal networks in several regions, General Musa stressed that no single agency or service can ensure national security alone. He emphasized that intelligence sharing and inter-agency cooperation remain crucial to an effective defence strategy.
The Defence Minister encouraged continued unity among security agencies, joint operations, and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. He underscored the importance of translating strategic discussions into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
Commending the Army’s accomplishments, General Musa also paid tribute to fallen and injured soldiers, including Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja and Brigadier General Oba, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired personnel.
He lauded Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for his extensive career from battalion and brigade commands in the North East to his current leadership role, urging senior commanders to continually innovate strategies to counter emerging threats.
General Musa reiterated that national security is central to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and assured that the government would continue to provide policy support, strategic direction, and resources to maintain a professional and capable Armed Forces.
