In a post on on Monday, Ajayi noted that holding opposition status does not grant immunity from law enforcement or legal proceedings. He stated, “Opposition elements, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, Senator David Mark, Chief Oyegun, and others, have suggested that democracy is at risk in Nigeria because Malami, El-Rufai, and Tambuwal are under EFCC investigation for corruption. It is the duty of the opposition to cry wolf, and this is permitted in a democracy. However, being in opposition does not protect anyone from legal accountability. Those claiming to rescue Nigeria should not act as cheerleaders for individuals accused of corruption. Malami and others with cases before the EFCC should address questions about their public office stewardship.”

Ajayi’s statement followed allegations by former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami that the EFCC revoked his bail after he attended a political rally in Kebbi State. The EFCC, however, countered that Malami had not fulfilled the five conditions attached to his provisional bail, describing his claims as unfounded.
