Governor Buni made this announcement during his visit to the scene of the inferno on Tuesday, expressing his deep sympathy for the individual victims and the entire state, considering the significant loss incurred.
Describing the timing of the disaster as particularly unfortunate, Governor Buni acknowledged the efforts of the youth in building their business ventures. He reassured the victims, stating, “Government will continue to assist you to recover your businesses, to generate more employment opportunities for our youths.”
Governor Buni also emphasized the importance of vigilance and proactive measures to prevent fire disasters, urging both individuals and businesses to take necessary precautions.
As part of the government’s support, the Governor directed the Secretary to the State Government to allocate shops to the victims at the newly constructed Ibrahim Gaidam Modern Market in Damaturu. Additionally, the state Ministry of Housing has been tasked with assessing the extent of the damage, with plans to reconstruct the affected structures for the owners.
The recent fire incident led to the destruction of 33 shops, affecting 157 shop owners and their dependents at the Damaturu GSM market in the early hours of the morning
