No One Is Above The Law: CCB Investigates High-Profile Public Servants.
According to Nivo News, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has confirmed that several former ministers, current top government officials, and senior public office holders at both federal and state levels are under investigation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The bureau’s Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Bello, disclosed this during an interview in Abuja, noting that names of those under investigation are being withheld to prevent a media trial.
Dr. Bello stressed that the CCB operates independently of political influence and that no individual is above the law. “We have begun investigating high-profile individuals. A former minister has already been taken to court, and investigations are ongoing for another former minister and a serving top government official,” he said.
He further explained that the bureau has secured interim forfeiture orders from the courts for some of those under investigation and prefers to carry out its work discreetly to avoid public judgment before evidence is confirmed.
“Media coverage can prematurely label individuals as corrupt, even if investigations later prove them innocent. That is why we only speak when ready to proceed to court,” Bello added.
The CCB chairman emphasized that asset declaration remains central to the bureau’s work. Public officers are required to declare assets at the beginning and end of their tenure, and discrepancies in declared wealth often trigger investigations. “If an officer’s assets suddenly increase significantly without justification, that is when we step in,” he noted.
Bello also mentioned that investigations extend beyond asset verification to include petitions and allegations against public servants and members of the public. “If a petition reveals undeclared assets or unexplained income, the individual will face legal action,” he said.
Highlighting operational challenges, Bello pointed out that the bureau faces constraints in manpower, funding, and reliance on manual systems. Nevertheless, the CCB adopts a risk-based approach, prioritizing high-risk and high-profile cases to maximize impact. “Our approach is not about protecting anyone but about using limited resources effectively to achieve the greatest results,” he concluded.
