Court documents reveal that the incident occurred in February 2025 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Brume was reportedly in his apartment with another woman when his former girlfriend, the mother of his infant child, arrived. An argument broke out outside the apartment, during which Brume discharged a Glock 43X pistol while the child was present. The confrontation escalated when the woman opened the apartment door and saw Brume with the other woman, leading to a second dispute outside.
Investigators reported that Brume fired the weapon multiple times as the mother attempted to flee the scene. Police later found several bullet marks in the walls of the apartment complex, illustrating the severity of the incident. Authorities further claim that Brume damaged the woman’s phone, took the child, and disposed of the firearm in nearby shrubs before deputies arrested him.
The case marks a dramatic turn in Brume’s career, once celebrated for his speed and athletic promise. He boasts a personal best of 9.90 seconds in the 100 metres, placing him among Nigeria’s fastest sprinters. Brume also won silver at the 2023 NCAA Championships and helped the LSU 4x100m relay team set an NCAA record of 37.90 seconds while clinching the national title that year.
Brume’s sentencing date has not yet been announced.
