Tension Rises As FIFA Ruling Forces Nigeria, Egypt To Delay AFCON Clash.
According to Nivo News, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced a revised date for the warm-up match between the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The encounter, initially scheduled for Sunday, 14 December in Cairo, has now been moved to Tuesday, 16 December. The change aligns with the updated regulations and allows both sides to have their full squads available for the preparatory clash.
Officials also confirmed that the match has been downgraded to a practice game, enabling both coaches to make unlimited substitutions beyond the standard five. The fixture will hold at the Cairo Stadium, kicking off at 8pm local time (7pm in Nigeria).
Nigeria, three-time African champions, will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania. The Super Eagles begin their AFCON campaign on Tuesday, 23 December, when they take on Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fes. They will subsequently face Tunisia on Saturday, 27 December, before rounding off their group-stage games against Uganda on Tuesday, 30 December.
Egypt, the tournament’s most decorated team with seven titles, will contest their Group B matches at the Stade d’Agadir. The Pharaohs are drawn with South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe for the 35th edition of the continental championship.
