According to Nivo News, the Nigerian Air Force carried out targeted airstrikes on camps used by the mutinous soldiers in Benin, an operation later confirmed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in an official statement.

Reacting to the development on , Fani-Kayode described Nigeria’s latest intervention as consistent with a long history of defending democracy across the continent. He highlighted several decades in which Nigeria deployed its strength and influence to restore stability in neighbouring countries. In his post, he cited Nigeria’s involvement in Tanzania and Congo in 1964; Angola and Mozambique in 1975; Equatorial Guinea in 1976; Chad in 1983; Zimbabwe in 1980; South Africa in 1990; Sierra Leone in 1998; Liberia and São Tomé and Príncipe in 2003; Guinea-Bissau in 2012; and most recently, Benin Republic in 2025.

Fani-Kayode maintained that no other African nation has contributed more significantly to protecting democratic governance than Nigeria, praising the country’s past leaders and the military for their continued role in safeguarding the region.
