Portugal’s U17 national team secured their first-ever World Cup triumph in Doha after defeating Austria 1-0 in a tightly contested final decided by a brilliant strike from Anísio Cabral. Both finalists were hunting for their maiden U17 World Cup crown, but Portugal settled quicker into the encounter, immediately putting Austria under sustained pressure. Their early dominance paid off just after the 30-minute mark when Duarte Cunha sprinted down the right flank and fired a sharp low cross into the box. Cabral met it with precision, smashing home the decisive goal. A brief VAR review upheld the strike, confirming the advantage Portugal carried into halftime.
Austria emerged from the break with renewed urgency and pushed higher up the pitch in search of an equaliser. Lucas Weinhandl’s long-range attempt and a powerful header from substitute Kenny Ndukwe forced Portugal’s goalkeeper, Romário, into action, yet the Iberian side’s disciplined defensive structure remained intact.
As tension grew, both coaches made changes to steady their teams. Portugal introduced Yoan Pereira, João Aragão, and later Ricardo Neto to reinforce the midfield battle, while Austria brought on Sergej Savic and Julian Halmich in an effort to break through. Austria came close in the closing stages when Halmich unleashed a dangerous effort that was blocked at close range.
With five minutes of added time intensifying the pressure, Portugal held firm until the final whistle, sparking jubilant celebrations as they lifted their first-ever U17 World Cup trophy.

‘Big Brother’ Nigeria Leads The Way: The Gambia Set To Revolutionize Civil Service With Nigerian Model!.
The Gambian government is actively seeking to implement elements of Nigeria’s civil service reform model to enhance its own public sector management and capacity building. During a study visit to the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Abuja, Alieu Njie, the Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service of The Gambia, emphasized that the visit was focused on gaining insights into Nigeria’s institutional development, public sector reforms, and training strategies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Highlighting the strong bilateral relationship, Njie referred to Nigeria as a “big brother” that has consistently provided support to The Gambia across various sectors, including health, defense, and technical aid. Njie noted that the delegation gained significant knowledge during their time in Abuja, stating that the insights acquired were invaluable.
Dr. Imeh Okon, the Administrator and CEO of PSIN, emphasized that the visit serves as a platform for mutual dialogue and learning rather than a one-sided presentation, allowing both nations to exchange expertise on public service delivery and institutional governance. She also highlighted that PSIN has modernized its processes by integrating technology-driven training and has successfully conducted approximately 3,500 digital promotion examinations across various government agencies.
Additionally, Dr. Francisca Odeka, a consultant to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, outlined the “One’s Knowledge” framework. Key aspects of this reform include:
-
Institutionalizing Learning: The framework is designed to prioritize continuous professional development among civil servants.
-
Performance Accountability: It links training outcomes directly to performance management, ensuring that professional development influences promotion decisions.
-
Consequence Management: The system introduces accountability by ensuring that employees are evaluated based on their commitment to required training, aiming to foster a more competent and performance-driven workforce.

Security Titans Clash! Former Chiefs Divided Over Giving Governors Control Of State Police!.
Retired security chiefs have expressed varying opinions regarding the extent of authority state governors should hold under proposed state police arrangements, with many emphasizing the need for safeguards to prevent the potential abuse of power. This debate arises as the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) pushes for greater constitutional control over local security and guaranteed funding, following President Bola Tinubu’s transmission of a Constitution Alteration Bill regarding state police to the National Assembly.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Perspectives from retired security officials include:
-
Brigadier General Peter Aro (retd.): Aro supports decentralization but argues that state police must be a structured security reform rather than a political project. He maintains that states should manage internal security—including intelligence gathering, investigations, and community policing—while suggesting that matters like presidential and National Assembly elections remain under federal jurisdiction to maintain neutrality. He further proposed the use of neutral judicial-security panels to review politically sensitive or controversial cases to mitigate the risk of abuse.
-
Assistant Inspector-General of Police Ali Amodu (retd.): Amodu believes governors should have control over state police because they will be responsible for their funding, maintenance, and equipment. He acknowledges concerns regarding potential governor overreach but insists that Nigeria’s severe security situation necessitates immediate action, noting that adjustments to the system can be made as challenges arise.
-
Brigadier General George Edim (retd.): Edim advocates for empowering governors with greater security responsibilities, arguing that the advantages of decentralization outweigh the risks. He contends that if properly empowered and structured, governors can effectively manage security within their borders, and they should be trusted to fulfill these duties in line with democratic principles.
-
AIG Wilson Inalegwu (retd.): Inalegwu is more skeptical, questioning the specific nature of the powers governors are requesting and emphasizing that no democracy should grant police power to political officeholders without robust checks and balances. He argues that governors already hold significant influence and that their push for further authority could lead to abuses of power, such as ordering arrests without due process. He insists that state-level oversight institutions, similar to the federal Police Service Commission, must be established if state police are created.

Lagos Under Siege? Police Intercept Massive Haul Of 47 Sacks Of Military Uniforms And 80 Cartons Of Illicit Drugs!.
During a targeted intelligence-driven operation, officers from the Lagos State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully recovered 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illegal substances in Surulere.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Three suspects, identified as Chinedu David (29), Ezeagwu Chukwuma (38), and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi (45), were arrested during the operation. Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani announced that the suspects were apprehended Saturday night while transporting the contraband in an unregistered MAN diesel truck.
The truck and the items, which included dozens of sacks of military uniforms and cartons of substances believed to be illicit drugs, were taken into custody. Preliminary investigation suggests the military gear was destined for the South-East region of Nigeria. Investigators are working to identify the source, owner, and intended recipients of the goods. They are also examining the level of involvement of the suspects and tracking potential co-conspirators.
While CP Tijani assured Lagos residents that the discovery poses no immediate security threat to the state as the items were being moved elsewhere, he expressed concern regarding the recovery due to historical connections between criminal organizations and the use of military-style uniforms. A police source confirmed that the truck’s driver and assistant were the first suspects detained, followed by two additional suspects who later came to a Surulere police station claiming ownership of the seized items.
