“Join Tinubu’s Battle”: Barau Urges States, Citizens To Back Fierce Offensive Against Insecurity.
Senate Deputy President Jibrin Barau has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold and consistent measures aimed at tackling insecurity nationwide, urging state governments, private institutions and citizens to join hands in strengthening the effort.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly, Barau stressed that Nigeria’s security challenges cannot be solved by the Federal Government alone, noting that the situation requires broad collaboration to produce sustainable results. According to Nivo News, he emphasised that the President’s approach reflects commitment and strategic focus.
“Mr President is doing extremely well. His efforts must be supported by all Nigerians—state authorities, corporate bodies and even individual citizens,” he said, adding that insecurity must be confronted collectively if the country hopes to overcome it.
Barau urged state governments to invest in critical surveillance systems, intelligence infrastructure and operational logistics to aid federal security agencies. He explained that insecurity could be addressed more quickly if every state sets up mechanisms to track activities within their forests and communities.
“State governments should provide the necessary hardware and surveillance tools. If each state develops facilities to monitor forests and local areas, the military can act more swiftly. Once this is done nationwide, results will come faster,” he said.
Barau also commended Tinubu for prioritising security, citing the President’s decision to cancel his trip to South Africa for the G20 Summit in order to focus on national safety—a move he said contributed to the recent rescue of abducted victims in Kebbi State.
He added that Tinubu inherited a difficult situation but has shown readiness to resolve it, stressing that collective backing would ensure quicker progress.
On the Senate’s recent resolutions on national security, Barau said the Senate leadership will meet with the President to convey the urgency of the recommendations. He expressed confidence that Tinubu will give the issues full consideration.
Responding to calls for state police, Barau noted that the key issue is not the name of the security architecture but its capacity. He argued that both federal and potential state police must be adequately funded, trained and well equipped—areas he said the President has already begun to address.
“It is not about nomenclature. Even the federal police require better training and funding. What matters is building real capacity,” he said.
Barau reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting reforms that will strengthen policing and internal security, concluding with a call for unity: “The President is doing his best. Now everyone must come on board to help him.”
