Participants at the event stressed that adopting CNG on a national scale would significantly reduce transportation costs, boost citizens’ welfare, and cut harmful emissions across the country. The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, Prof. Umar Katsayal, described the transition as vital to Nigeria’s economic advancement. Represented by Dr. Ibrahim Ahmadu, he explained that research has confirmed that CNG-powered vehicles produce lower levels of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter, with carbon dioxide emissions dropping by as much as 20 to 30 percent.
The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, restated the Federal Government’s resolve to promote natural gas as the nation’s primary transition fuel. He noted that Nigeria’s estimated 210 trillion cubic feet of natural gas provides a strong foundation for delivering cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable energy. He praised President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PICNG), which has accelerated CNG adoption across the transport sector, particularly after the removal of petrol subsidies. Abdullahi added that the initiative has increased public awareness of gas as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative.
Maryam Ibrahim, Managing Director of Automotive Gas Nigeria Services Limited, reiterated the company’s pledge to advance CNG usage through expanded vehicle conversion services, improved nationwide refuelling networks, and enhanced technical training programs. Autogas Nigeria’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Kennedy Osagie, highlighted the company’s achievements over the past four years, including the training and certification of over 1,000 Nigerian technicians in green-energy skills and the conversion of more than 2,000 vehicles to CNG. According to Nivo News, these efforts have led to major cost savings for individuals and businesses while supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner transportation energy.
