Osun Community Urges FG, Army To Immortalise Late COAS Lagbaja.
Ilobu Community, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area in Osun State, has appealed to the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to immortalise the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, one year after his passing.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the community, which suspended its annual anniversary in 2024 to mourn Lagbaja, has announced the 2025 edition through the President of the Ilobu-Asake Development Union (IADU), Pastor Olufemi Salako.
Salako expressed deep concern that there is no visible sign in Ilobu to honour Lagbaja’s legacy, despite his outstanding service to the nation. “If you come into our town today, there is nothing to show that we produced a son like Lagbaja. It is unfortunate that nothing indicates to visitors that such a prominent figure hailed from here. He served the state and Nigeria with excellence, and we believe he deserves to be immortalised,” Salako stated.
He revealed that discussions were ongoing with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to ensure proper recognition for the late General. He also noted that although the Nigerian Army had built a modern hospital for the community before Lagbaja’s death, it was yet to be named in his honour.
The community further called on investors to return to Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin, which were devastated by a recent communal crisis that led to the destruction of properties worth over ₦2 billion. Salako urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to provide relief for affected residents, stressing that many families and businesses were still struggling to recover.
“We believe the era of unrest is behind us, but the scars remain visible. Properties worth billions were destroyed, leaving many homeless and businesses crippled. We appeal to Governor Adeleke to help restore normalcy and support those severely affected,” he added.
