Trump Under Fire As Congress Members Denounce Nigeria Strike Threat.
According to Nivo News, two senior members of the United States Congress, Gregory W. Meeks and Sara Jacobs, have sharply criticized President Donald Trump for threatening a military strike on Nigeria over alleged Christian persecution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a joint statement, Meeks, who serves as the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Jacobs, the ranking member of the Africa Subcommittee, described Trump’s remarks as “irresponsible and reckless.” The lawmakers rejected the administration’s decision to label Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” arguing that the move grossly oversimplifies the complex drivers of violence in the nation.
They emphasized that the recurring clashes between farmers and herders stem largely from competition over land and resources rather than religious hostility. The statement further pointed out that terrorist groups in northern Nigeria have repeatedly targeted both Christian and Muslim communities, which continue to suffer devastating attacks from criminal gangs known as bandits.
Commending President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and foster interfaith harmony, Meeks and Jacobs maintained that “every Nigerian deserves protection and peace.”
The lawmakers also criticized Trump’s vow to “defend Christians” through possible military intervention, describing it as “a reckless response to distorted facts.” They cautioned that such rhetoric could drag the United States into an unnecessary foreign conflict.
“It is deeply irresponsible for President Trump to threaten military action,” they stated. “Supporting security initiatives is one thing, but threatening intervention is entirely different and dangerous.”
They further warned that Trump’s suggestion to suspend U.S. aid to Nigeria would only jeopardize crucial humanitarian and development programs that benefit millions of vulnerable citizens.
