According to reports, the Police Inspector was attached to the Lagos State Police Command. State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, who visited the scene, described the incident as tragic and praised the emergency response teams for working from the early hours to rescue victims and clear the wreckage.
“It is very unfortunate that we lost one of our police inspectors who was part of the advance team responding to the incident,” Jimoh stated. Preliminary investigations indicate the crash was triggered by a trailer that suffered brake failure. The commissioner emphasized the importance of proper vehicle maintenance for all drivers, particularly those operating heavy vehicles.
Three people have reportedly been rescued from the scene, while joint rescue operations involving the police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other agencies continue. Efforts are ongoing to remove damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic along the busy expressway.
Jimoh used the incident to caution motorists, especially drivers of articulated vehicles, against reckless driving. He stressed that adherence to safety regulations and proper vehicle maintenance could prevent many fatal accidents on highways.
