The Plateau State Police Command announced on Wednesday that it had successfully recovered a total of 77 stolen cattle within the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, made this revelation in an official statement on Wednesday, revealing that the cattle had been stolen by criminals from a herder in Bauchi State and subsequently transported to the Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State before their recovery by law enforcement.

As stated in the release, “On 19/09/2023, we received credible information at the Bashar Police Division that a certain number of cows belonging to one Alhaji Idris Yunusa, the Galadiman Yuli Duguri, had been rustled by unknown criminals on 11/9/2023 from Gajin Duguri village, Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State. According to the intelligence report, the cows were rustled from a herder while grazing and moved towards Odare forest of Kampani Zurak village, Wase Local Government Area.
Upon receiving this information, the Divisional Police Officers, Bashar Division, CSP Atiku Yahaya, immediately led a team of policemen, collaborating with some VGN personnel and hunters, to intercept the culprits.
Upon sighting the police, the culprits fled into the nearby forests. Nonetheless, a total of 77 cows were successfully recovered and returned to their owner. The police have intensified their efforts to apprehend the wrongdoers and ensure they face the full consequences of the law.”
The statement further emphasized the commitment of Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Alawari, to the safety and security of all Plateau State residents. It encouraged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities or individuals, and provide timely and accurate information to aid the police in combating crime and criminal activities within the state.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty.
