Tiwa Savage Says She Might Consider Being a Second Wife

Published

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has opened up about her views on love, marriage, and the challenges of finding a partner at this stage in her life.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a recent appearance on the American podcast Air Service, the award-winning singer said she has reached a point where most men who fit her ideal partner profile are either much older or already married.

“If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their fifties or already married,” Savage said. “So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife. I think so. I could be a second wife.”

Savage, 44, added that if she ever became a second wife, she would be respectful and avoid conflict with the first wife.

“I think I can get along with the first wife and she’s going to love me because I’m not going to be troublesome,” she said. “I’m going to be going on tours, I’m not really going to stress you. I’m very respectful. I know that you are the first wife and would accord you that respect.”

Her comments quickly sparked widespread debate on social media, with fans and commentators weighing in on her openness about a topic that is often seen as controversial in Nigerian culture. Some praised her honesty, while others criticized the idea of polygamy in modern relationships.

Tiwa Savage, known for her hit songs such as “All Over,” “Koroba,” and “Somebody’s Son,” has often spoken publicly about her personal struggles and experiences. She was previously married to music executive Tunji Balogun, popularly known as TBillz, from 2013 to 2018. The couple has a son together.

Their marriage ended publicly, with both parties accusing each other of infidelity. Savage later focused on her music career, becoming one of Africa’s most successful female artists and earning international recognition.

Her recent comments reflect a broader conversation about the pressures faced by successful women in balancing their careers and personal lives. In many parts of Nigeria, discussions around marriage and the expectations placed on women remain deeply rooted in tradition, even as social attitudes slowly evolve.

Cultural analysts say Savage’s statement touches on a sensitive but increasingly relevant issue — the realities of dating as a high-profile woman in her 40s. “Tiwa’s remarks highlight the social double standards that exist for women as they age,” said relationship commentator Chika Nwosu. “Many men her age may seek younger partners, while women in similar positions face limited options.”

Despite the mixed reactions, Savage’s candidness has once again drawn attention to her reputation for speaking her mind and challenging social norms.

In recent years, she has continued to make headlines beyond music, taking on film projects and performing at major international events, including the coronation concert of King Charles III in London in 2023.

As fans debate her latest revelation, Savage appears focused on staying true to herself and her journey. “I’ve learned not to judge anyone’s path,” she once said in an earlier interview. “Life is about doing what gives you peace.”

Whether or not she pursues marriage again, Tiwa Savage’s comments have reignited national conversations about love, age, and acceptance in modern Nigerian society.

Her openness — and her confidence in addressing such personal topics — continues to reinforce her image as not just a music icon, but also a woman unafraid to speak her truth.
