MC Oluomo Trends After Governor Otti’s Warning to Election Riggers

Published

Abia State Governor Alex Otti warning election riggers to “write their wills” before the 2027 elections has sparked a new round of debate online — and unexpectedly brought Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, back into the national spotlight.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Otti’s remarks, which surfaced in a viral clip this week, were meant as a tough message against electoral manipulation. But Nigerians on social media quickly shifted focus to MC Oluomo, the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), recalling his controversial statements during the 2023 elections in Lagos.

Within hours, “MC Oluomo” began trending on X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms as Nigerians argued over his past political influence and his role in election season politics. Some users defended him as a misunderstood figure, while others accused him of representing the problems Otti was warning against.

MC Oluomo, a prominent figure in Lagos transport politics, was elected national president of the NURTW in November 2024. However, his victory was later overturned by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which ruled that the election did not follow the union’s constitution and recognized a rival faction instead.

Despite the legal setback, Akinsanya has remained active and vocal. Earlier this month, he resumed work at the NURTW headquarters, saying he was focused on unity and progress within the union. “I have no time for distractions. Our union must move forward,” he said in a recent statement.

Governor Otti’s speech, which warned potential riggers of serious consequences, was delivered at a public event in Abia. “Those who plan to rig in 2027 should start writing their wills,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd. The remark was meant to show his administration’s commitment to fair elections, but its sharp tone also stirred national reactions.

Political analysts say the incident shows how deeply social media connects politics across Nigeria. A comment made in Abia can quickly ignite discussions involving figures hundreds of miles away.

“This is how narratives travel,” said Lagos-based political commentator Kunle Olatunji. “Governor Otti was addressing his own state, but because MC Oluomo is tied to the broader story of election credibility, his name immediately resurfaced.”

MC Oluomo has long been a polarizing figure in Nigeria’s political landscape. As head of the powerful Lagos transport union, he wields significant influence over thousands of drivers and motor park workers. His statements during the 2023 elections — seen by critics as politically charged — drew widespread criticism and public scrutiny.

Supporters describe him as a grassroots leader who represents the voice of ordinary transport workers. Critics, however, argue that his prominence symbolizes the uneasy link between politics and street power in Nigeria.

For Governor Otti, the renewed attention on MC Oluomo may have been unplanned, but it underscores the national interest in political accountability and election integrity as the 2027 cycle approaches.

The exchange also highlights how political warnings can take on lives of their own in Nigeria’s fast-moving online space. What began as a state-level speech has now reignited national debates over leadership, reputation, and the credibility of upcoming elections.

As of Friday, MC Oluomo had not directly commented on the online discussions, but his name continues to dominate social feeds — marking an unexpected “comeback tour” in the public conversation, sparked by a governor’s warning from hundreds of kilometers away.

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has appealed to residents of Abia State and other road users along the Aba–Azumini highway to protect the newly completed road from activities that could damage it.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

FERMA’s South-East 2 Zonal Director, Suleiman Mohammed Omonowo, issued the warning during an inspection of the project, cautioning against the burning of tyres during celebrations, which he said could damage the road surface.

He noted that destructive practices by some youths and community members often contribute to the early failure of road projects across the country.

“Our advice to road users, especially indigenes, is to protect the road from destruction. Let nobody come and destroy it or burn tyres in the name of celebration,” he said.

Omonowo said the Aba–Azumini highway was previously in a very bad condition before FERMA intervened, describing it as a death trap for commuters and residents.

He also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the project, adding that drainage structures such as catch pits would help prevent flooding and extend the lifespan of the road.

According to him, the highway serves as a major link between Aba, several Abia communities, and Cross River State, carrying heavy traffic daily.

He urged local construction firms to improve on quality delivery to compete effectively with foreign contractors.

Meanwhile, the Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer in Abia State, Festus Okafor, said FERMA workers have not faced harassment or violence from residents during operations in the state.
