Elliot Anderson Emerging as Manchester United Midfield Target

Published

LONDON — Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is drawing growing attention from Manchester United, with club analysts viewing the 22-year-old as an ideal fit for the team’s planned midfield rebuild next season.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Anderson, who joined Forest from Newcastle United in July 2024, has quickly impressed in his debut season at the City Ground. His energy, smart ball control, and strong defensive work have made him one of Forest’s most consistent performers in the Premier League.

United are expected to strengthen their midfield next summer, especially if senior players like Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, or Manuel Ugarte move on. Sources around the club say INEOS, United’s ownership group, has identified midfield as a priority area for improvement, and Anderson’s blend of youth, drive, and versatility fits the club’s long-term vision.

Anderson has started most of Forest’s league matches this season, showing a balance of defensive grit and attacking intent. His passing accuracy sits above 80 percent, and he has become known for carrying the ball forward and linking play quickly under manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

“Elliot is a player who can start in different positions and still play his own game. That makes him better,” Nuno said in a recent interview, praising the midfielder’s adaptability and work rate.

The young Englishman has also begun making his mark internationally. After representing Scotland at youth level, Anderson switched to England and recently earned his first senior call-up, signaling his rise within the national setup.

Born in Whitley Bay, Anderson progressed through Newcastle United’s academy before breaking into the senior team. A productive loan spell at Bristol Rovers in 2022 helped him develop a reputation as a dynamic, hard-working midfielder. His permanent move to Forest last year, part of Newcastle’s efforts to balance financial regulations, gave him the chance to play regular top-flight football.

At Forest, Anderson has become a key figure in midfield, praised for his ability to press opponents, recover possession, and transition play. “I’ve been working hard for that,” Anderson said after scoring his first Premier League goal for Forest in January. “The lads have been telling me to shoot more in training, so I just went for it — thankfully it went in.”

Manchester United’s interest reflects a wider strategy by INEOS to focus on younger, developing players who can grow into key roles. With the club seeking to rebuild its squad around a more balanced, high-energy midfield, Anderson’s profile — energetic, reliable, and tactically flexible — has reportedly caught the eye of recruitment staff.

Forest, however, are believed to be reluctant to sell. Reports in England suggest the club would only consider an offer exceeding £60 million, though no formal approach has yet been made.

If United do decide to pursue him, Anderson would join a list of targets aimed at bringing balance and renewed intensity to Erik ten Hag’s side. With mounting uncertainty around veteran players and the club’s ambition to return to the top of English football, the next transfer window is expected to be crucial.

For now, Anderson remains focused on his season with Forest, who are battling to secure a mid-table finish. But with his rapid rise and growing reputation, his name is likely to stay near the top of United’s watchlist as preparations for next season gather pace.

Meanwhile, a faction of the Accord Party (A), led by its National Chairman and presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen, has withdrawn support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and endorsed Oyebamiji ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Imumolen announced the decision on Thursday during the APC mega rally in Osun State, just days before the August 15, 2026 poll.

Speaking at the rally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, said information available to him indicated that the Accord faction had “thrown in the towel” and decided to support Oyebamiji.

During his address, Imumolen removed the yellow cap associated with Accord in the state and replaced it with an APC-branded cap in a symbolic show of support for the ruling party’s candidate.

A video from the rally showed the discarded yellow cap being thrown into the air by an unidentified person.
