Police Bust 11-Member Robbery Syndicate on Katsina–Kano Highway
Katsina State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected members of a robbery syndicate said to be behind a series of highway attacks along the Katsina–Kano road.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu said in a statement that the arrests followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation launched after reports of increasing robbery incidents on the busy highway.
According to the command, officers first arrested one suspect on October 12, 2025, around 10 a.m., while he was attempting to sell stolen goods. The arrest led to the capture of ten other suspects connected to the same gang.
“The suspects are notorious for blocking roads at night, especially along the Sha’iskawa–Charanchi and Katsina–Kankia–Kano routes, to rob unsuspecting motorists,” Aliyu said.
Recovered items from the gang included 80 wristwatches, nine mobile phones, and a knife believed to have been used during the robberies. Police said the suspects, aged between 21 and 35, confessed to taking part in multiple attacks over recent months.
Widespread Concern
Motorists and traders who regularly travel between Katsina and Kano have long complained about frequent highway robberies, especially in isolated areas with limited patrols. Many travelers have described the routes as dangerous, particularly at night.
The arrests mark a significant step in the police command’s ongoing crackdown on armed robbery, banditry, and related crimes in the region. Authorities say they are determined to make highways safer for the public.
Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu commended the officers who carried out the operation, describing it as a major breakthrough in restoring public confidence.
“This success is the result of timely intelligence and swift action by our men,” Shehu said. “We encourage citizens to continue providing credible information that can help the police prevent and detect crime more effectively.”
Investigation Continues
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify other accomplices and recover additional stolen property. The suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is completed.
The Katsina–Kano highway is one of northern Nigeria’s busiest commercial routes, linking major trade centers and supporting daily movement of goods and passengers. Frequent security challenges along the route have previously raised concerns about economic disruption and public safety.
Residents welcomed the arrests but called for sustained patrols to prevent new gangs from emerging. “We are happy the police have acted,” said Musa Lawal, a driver who plies the route daily. “But we hope they will continue to patrol because these criminals always return when things go quiet.”
A Step Toward Safer Roads
The police command said it will increase surveillance and deploy additional patrol units to major roads in Katsina State. Authorities also urged travelers to report suspicious movements and avoid isolated areas at night.
The successful operation has been widely praised as a sign of renewed commitment by law enforcement to restore order on Nigeria’s highways.
“The fight against crime is a shared responsibility,” DSP Aliyu said. “With community cooperation, we can ensure safety for everyone traveling through Katsina and beyond.”
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.
During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:
-
Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.
-
Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.
-
Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
