Defending champions Kano Pillars and Niger FC made strong statements on Monday as they opened the 2025 National Amputee Football Championship with dominant victories at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The five-day tournament, which runs from October 13 to 17, brings together eight top amputee football teams from across Nigeria. It also serves as a selection trial for the 2026 Amputee World Cup, scheduled to take place in Liberia and Costa Rica from July 31 to August 9 next year.
Pillars, Niger off to a flying start
Kano Pillars, last year’s champions, wasted no time showing why they remain the team to beat. They overpowered their opponents with quick attacks and solid defending, maintaining full control throughout the match.
Niger FC followed with another convincing win, showcasing skill, teamwork, and discipline that quickly made them one of the early favorites in the competition.
Other teams participating in the championship include Kwara FC, Kaduna State, Imo State, Plateau State, Abba Gida Gida FC, and Phoenix FC.
Promoting inclusion through sport
The championship is organized by the Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) to promote inclusion and raise awareness about athletes living with disabilities. Beyond competition, the event aims to identify new talent for the national team, the Special Eagles, ahead of global tournaments.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Chief Paul Maduakor, President of the Nigeria Amputee Football Federation, commended the players for their courage and commitment.
“This championship is not just about winning trophies. It’s about creating opportunities for amputee players to express their talent and inspire others,” Maduakor said. “We are proud of how far the sport has come and optimistic about its future in Nigeria.”
Nonye Nwose, the federation’s Secretary-General, also highlighted the importance of the event.
“Holding this championship in Abuja shows our determination to put amputee football in the national spotlight,” she said. “We want more Nigerians to see the incredible talent and resilience of these players.”
Building toward the World Cup
According to Technical Director Victor Nwenwe, performances in Abuja will influence the list of players invited to the next training camp of the national team.
“The players know what’s at stake,” Nwenwe explained. “Every match is a chance to prove they deserve to wear the national colors at the World Cup.”
Nigeria’s amputee football team, the Special Eagles, have been rebuilding since their appearance at the 2018 Amputee World Cup in Mexico. Officials hope this year’s championship will help strengthen the team and improve preparations for future international events.
Growing recognition for amputee sports
Amputee football has grown steadily in Nigeria over the last decade, supported by corporate sponsors and disability-rights advocates. The national federation continues to call for more funding and government support to provide training facilities, quality equipment, and travel opportunities for players.
Organizers say the Abuja championship is another step toward giving amputee football the visibility it deserves.
The tournament continues Tuesday with key group-stage fixtures, as teams battle for places in the semifinals. The final match is scheduled for Friday, October 17, when a new national champion will be crowned — or Kano Pillars could once again lift the trophy.
For many of the players, the event offers more than medals or recognition. It’s a chance to represent their country on the world stage and to show that disability is not inability.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.
During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.
-
Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.
-
Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
