Kebbi Approves ₦4 Billion to Renovate Seven General Hospitals
Kebbi State Government has approved ₦4 billion for the renovation of seven general hospitals across the state as part of efforts to strengthen public health infrastructure and improve medical services.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Governor Nasir Idris announced the approval after a recent State Executive Council meeting, saying the move is aimed at revitalizing healthcare delivery in both rural and urban areas of the state.
According to the government, the renovation will cover major facilities including Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, Bunza General Hospital, Argungu General Hospital, and four others spread across the state’s senatorial zones.
Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Umar Kambaza, said the renovation will include rebuilding wards, upgrading medical equipment, fixing faulty electrical and water systems, and improving staff accommodation. He noted that the funds will be disbursed in phases to ensure proper supervision and accountability.
“The state government is committed to ensuring that the people of Kebbi have access to functional and well-equipped hospitals,” Kambaza said. “This investment will not only improve patient care but also motivate healthcare workers to perform better.”
Governor Idris emphasized that his administration is determined to rebuild confidence in the state’s public hospitals, many of which have suffered years of neglect. He said the projects will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
“This initiative is part of our broader plan to overhaul the healthcare system in Kebbi,” Idris said. “We want our hospitals to meet modern standards and provide quality service to our people. No one should have to travel outside the state for basic medical care.”
Residents in Birnin Kebbi and neighboring areas have welcomed the decision, describing it as a timely intervention. A senior nurse at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, who requested anonymity, said the renovation would address several long-standing challenges such as overcrowded wards, poor lighting, and leaking roofs.
“Patients often suffer because of the poor state of our facilities,” the nurse said. “This project will make a real difference if it is completed as planned.”
Health experts have also praised the move, but they caution that renovation alone will not solve all the problems facing the state’s healthcare system. They called for more recruitment of qualified personnel, regular training, and adequate supply of medicines and consumables.
Dr. Shehu Koko, a public health expert, said sustained investment is necessary to ensure lasting results. “Infrastructure is important, but maintenance and human capacity are equally critical,” he said. “The government should create a maintenance culture so the hospitals do not fall back into disrepair after renovation.”
The state government said renovation work will begin in the coming weeks once contractors are fully mobilized. The projects are expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months, depending on the scope of work in each location.
Kebbi’s health sector has faced challenges in recent years due to underfunding and decaying infrastructure, leading to patient overcrowding and referrals to private clinics. The new funding is expected to ease pressure on the system and improve healthcare access for thousands of residents.
If successfully implemented, the ₦4 billion renovation could mark a significant step in the state’s efforts to modernize its healthcare network and ensure safer, more reliable medical services for its citizens.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
