“The Super Eagles have a good chance in the play-offs,” Odegbami stated. “Their recent performance shows they are capable of competing at the highest level.”
The Super Eagles secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo, with Victor Osimhen scoring a hat-trick. This win propelled Nigeria into the CAF play-offs, a crucial step towards World Cup qualification. The team will face Gabon in the semi-final on November 13, 2025, in Morocco. A victory would set up a final against either Cameroon or DR Congo
Odegbami, who was part of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, highlighted the importance of the World Cup for Africa. “It is very important for the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, so that Africa will have a voice,” he said. “Africa must come as a superpower of a different kind.” He also called on top players like Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon to lead the team in the upcoming matches
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Morocco will host the African play-offs for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The play-offs will feature four teams vying for the continent’s final World Cup spot
The Super Eagles’ journey to the play-offs has been marked by challenges, including a mid-air emergency during their flight from Angola after a 2-1 win over Lesotho. Despite the setback, the team is focused on their upcoming matches and remains determined to secure a spot in the World Cup.
Odegbami’s message serves as a rallying cry for the Super Eagles and their supporters. With the play-offs approaching, all eyes will be on Nigeria as they aim to make their mark on the global stage.
