Acting INEC Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, gave the assurance on Tuesday during the commission’s third quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

In her opening remarks, Agbamuche-Mbu welcomed representatives of political parties, national commissioners, senior INEC officials, and members of the press to the meeting. She thanked political parties for their consistent participation in the quarterly meetings, describing them as vital platforms for dialogue and collaboration.

“Our first meeting was held on January 22, 2025, while the second took place on June 26, 2025,” she said. “On behalf of the Commission, I want to express our appreciation for your regular attendance and valuable contributions.”

The INEC boss also paid tribute to former chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who completed his tenure on October 7, 2025. She praised him for his “legacy of innovation, institutional strength, and integrity,” noting that his work strengthened electoral democracy not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

Agbamuche-Mbu recalled that during the last consultative meeting, the commission announced a series of elections and electoral activities, including bye-elections in 12 states, the Anambra governorship election on November 8, 2025, the FCT Area Council elections on February 21, 2026, as well as the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections scheduled for June 20 and August 8, 2026, respectively.

She said the bye-elections conducted on August 16, 2025, across two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state assembly constituencies were successful, with all winners duly declared and issued Certificates of Return as required by the Electoral Act 2022.

“The Commission has already released the timetable and schedule of activities for the other elections,” she explained. “Some of these activities have commenced, including the publication of notices of election for Ekiti and Osun states and the official start of campaigns by political parties in Anambra and the FCT.”

Agbamuche-Mbu emphasized that INEC has made significant progress toward the Anambra governorship election, noting that 10 out of 13 key activities in the official timetable have been completed.

“The remaining activities are the publication of the Notice of Poll on October 25, the end of campaigns on November 6, and the election itself on November 8,” she stated.

According to her, INEC is “fully committed to keeping to the election schedule,” and political parties are urged to adhere strictly to the campaign deadline.

The acting chairman also assured that the commission has been working closely with security agencies at the national, state, and local government levels to ensure a peaceful process.

“All non-sensitive election materials have been delivered to Anambra State,” she disclosed. “Voter education and public sensitization efforts are ongoing to ensure citizens are fully informed and ready to participate.”

Agbamuche-Mbu reaffirmed INEC’s readiness to uphold transparency and fairness, stressing that credible elections depend on cooperation among all stakeholders — political parties, security agencies, the media, and voters.

“As we approach the Anambra election, our collective goal must be to strengthen public trust in the process and ensure that every vote counts,” she said.

The quarterly consultative meeting, which brings together political parties and INEC leadership, serves as a key platform for reviewing election activities, addressing challenges, and fostering collaboration ahead of major polls.
