No Vacancy in Aso Rock Until 2031, Says Minister Atah
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Yusuf Atah, has declared that there is no vacancy in the Presidential Villa in 2027, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue in office beyond that year.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atah made the statement in Abuja while reacting to reports suggesting that the North would not support Tinubu’s re-election. He described such claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
According to the minister, those spreading rumors of a “vacancy” in Aso Rock are enemies of national unity. He said the North remains strongly behind President Tinubu because of his ongoing reforms aimed at rebuilding the country’s economy and strengthening security.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027. The North stands firmly with President Tinubu because of his commitment to developing every part of Nigeria,” Atah said.
He added that individuals spreading false stories about Tinubu’s relationship with the North were only trying to create division for their own political gain.
Atah’s statement, signed by his media aide Seyi Olorunsola, emphasized that the administration has recorded important achievements in less than two years in office. These include efforts to improve security, economic reforms, and ongoing housing projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that Tinubu’s policies — including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates — have helped increase revenue for federal, state, and local governments. The minister also said more funds are now being directed toward infrastructure and social programs.
“The president has shown fairness to all regions. He is focused on rebuilding the economy, fighting insecurity, and providing affordable housing. These are the reasons Nigerians will continue to trust his leadership,” he added.
Atah pointed to the ongoing Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which aims to build thousands of affordable homes across the country, as part of the administration’s effort to improve living standards.
However, opposition parties have criticized the minister’s comment, saying it is undemocratic to assume that any leader can remain in power without elections. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) said in a statement that the presidency is not a permanent seat and that the people will decide who occupies Aso Rock in 2027.
“Nigeria’s democracy is built on free choice. No one has the right to decide the outcome of an election before it happens,” the ADC said.
Political analysts say Atah’s statement reflects growing confidence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next general election. They note that such comments could further heat up the political atmosphere as parties begin early positioning for 2027.
Despite economic challenges, the Tinubu administration has continued to defend its reforms, saying they are necessary to stabilize the nation and attract investment. Supporters believe that these changes will yield results before the next election, boosting the president’s chances of re-election.
As the 2027 general elections approach, debates over performance, public trust, and political alliances are expected to dominate Nigeria’s political space.
For now, Minister Atah’s message is clear — the ruling party believes there is no vacancy in Aso Rock until 2031.
