According to Nivo News, Emeka, who operates clothing businesses in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was arrested on October 8, 2025, upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA officers conducted a body scan that revealed the presence of illicit substances both in his system and private parts.

The agency reported that 58 wraps of cocaine were recovered from his underwear, while an additional 69 pellets were later excreted under medical supervision, bringing the total weight to 1.388 kilograms.

In another major operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted three separate drug consignments bound for the United Kingdom at a courier company in Lagos between October 9 and 10. The seizures included 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside glass ceramic blocks, 114 grams of pentazocine, and 168 grams of tramadol injections. Another 48 grams of tramadol capsules were disguised as Vitamin C tablets.

Investigations further uncovered attempts by international drug syndicates to smuggle narcotics to various destinations. The agency intercepted 2.6 kilograms of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol concealed in black soap tablets destined for Turkey, 169 grams of cocaine hidden in women’s handbags en route to Australia, and 568 grams of “Loud,” a potent cannabis variant, packed inside herbal containers bound for the United Arab Emirates.

At the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted 27,510 rohypnol pills hidden in sachets of alcoholic beverages heading to South Africa. A follow-up investigation led to the arrest of 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, also known as Yellow, who was allegedly behind the consignment. He was arrested at Oyingbo Market on October 2 after two of his associates had earlier been detained.

In a related incident, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, was arrested while attempting to smuggle 3,700 tramadol pills (225mg) and 2,600 tapentadol tablets (200mg) concealed in food items to Europe. He admitted to trafficking the drugs for another person in exchange for €945.

Across various state commands, NDLEA continued its intensified crackdown on narcotics. In Edo State, officers raided the home of a 33-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Sunday, and recovered 47 kilograms of skunk. In Osun, operatives arrested two men, Nureni Ayobami Eleweodo, 48, and Oladejo Taiwo, 52, after discovering 635 kilograms of skunk hidden in a Toyota Hiace bus at Omifufun village. Two other suspects were also caught with 100 kilograms of the same substance nearby.

Similarly, in Rivers State, two young men, Okoro Julius, 20, and Onyebuchi Nwibo, 25, were arrested following the seizure of 8.5 kilograms of skunk, while in Katsina, 46-year-old Sulaiman Kalalu was nabbed after NDLEA found 29.5 kilograms of cannabis in his home.

In Niger State, 29-year-old Yisa Daniel was arrested in New Bussa with 22,000 tramadol capsules, 800 pentazocine ampoules, and 150,000 exol-5 pills. Meanwhile, NDLEA officers recovered 312 kilograms of skunk from a forest camp in Ondo State and another 141.8 kilograms from two suspects along the Benin-Lagos expressway. In Kaduna, 27-year-old Rufai Ahmed, popularly known as Farin Malam, was apprehended with 150,000 exol-5 tablets being transported from Lagos to Katsina.

Beyond the arrests and drug seizures, NDLEA has intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through awareness programs in schools and communities across the country. The sensitization efforts reached several states, including Adamawa, Ebonyi, Katsina, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Anambra, Rivers, Kano, and Osun, educating youths on the dangers of drug abuse.

Commending the operatives for their commitment and professionalism, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), praised the officers for their relentless dedication to the agency’s mission.

“Their tenacity, professionalism, and balanced approach continue to strengthen the agency’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse,” Marwa stated.

FERMA’s South-East 2 Zonal Director, Suleiman Mohammed Omonowo, issued the warning during an inspection of the project, cautioning against the burning of tyres during celebrations, which he said could damage the road surface.

“Our advice to road users, especially indigenes, is to protect the road from destruction. Let nobody come and destroy it or burn tyres in the name of celebration,” he said.

Omonowo said the Aba–Azumini highway was previously in a very bad condition before FERMA intervened, describing it as a death trap for commuters and residents.

He also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the project, adding that drainage structures such as catch pits would help prevent flooding and extend the lifespan of the road.

Court Orders UI To Reinstate Students Suspended Over Fee Hike Protest.

Published

on

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the University of Ibadan (UI) to reinstate three students suspended over their participation in a protest against tuition fee hikes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Nkeonye Maha set aside the decision of the university’s Central Student Disciplinary Committee, ruling that the students were denied fair hearing during the disciplinary process.

The court held that the failure to allow the students call witnesses and present evidence violated their constitutional right to fair hearing, rendering the sanctions against them invalid.

The affected students — Aduwo Ayodele, Mide Gbadegesin, and Nice Linus — were suspended on July 14, 2025, after taking part in a protest against increased school fees approved by the university’s governing council.

Dissatisfied with the suspension, they approached the court, arguing that the disciplinary proceedings breached their fundamental rights and due process.

They asked the court to quash the suspension, reinstate their studentship, and award damages for alleged rights violations.

In her ruling, Justice Maha agreed with their arguments, stating that the university’s actions failed to meet the standards of natural justice.

Following the judgment, rights group CAPPA hailed the decision, urging the university to comply fully, reinstate the students, and issue an apology.

The group said the ruling reinforces constitutional protections for freedom of expression and serves as a warning against the suppression of student protests in tertiary institutions.
