Floods in Mexico Claim 28 Lives, Displace Thousands Amid Heavy Rains

The hardest-hit region is the central state of Hidalgo, where 16 people have died. Over 1,000 homes, 59 hospitals and clinics, and 308 schools were damaged due to landslides and overflowing rivers. Seventeen of Hidalgo’s 84 municipalities are without electricity, and many roads are impassable.
In neighboring Puebla state, nine people have died, and 13 are missing. Approximately 80,000 people have been affected by the heavy rains. A gas pipeline was ruptured by a landslide, and rescue operations are ongoing.
Veracruz state reported two deaths, including a police officer. Around 5,000 homes were damaged, and nearly 900 people were evacuated to shelters. The city of Poza Rica was one of the hardest hit by river flooding.
A child also died in Querétaro due to a landslide.
The government has deployed 8,700 military personnel to assist with rescue and relief efforts. Power outages have affected over 320,000 users, and nearly 1,000 kilometers of roads have been damaged across six states.
Authorities continue to assess the damage and provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the floods.
