160 Schools Compete in Ekiti Football Tournament
ADO-EKITI, Nigeria (Oct. 11, 2025) — More than 160 secondary schools across Ekiti State have kicked off the 2025 Agbeyewa Cup, a statewide football competition aimed at discovering young talent and promoting unity among students.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The tournament, organized by Agbeyewa Farms in collaboration with the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, began on October 6 and features schools from all 16 local government areas of the state.
According to the organizers, the competition is designed not only to nurture sporting talent but also to build discipline and teamwork among young people.
“This tournament goes beyond football. It is about developing the right character and sportsmanship among our youth,” said Dauda Lawal, Agbeyewa’s Director of Community Engagement. “It aligns with our chairman’s vision of empowering young Nigerians to become responsible citizens.”
Prizes and Rewards
The Agbeyewa Cup offers attractive prizes for top-performing schools. The overall champion will receive ₦1 million, while the first runner-up gets ₦750,000. The second and third runners-up will take home ₦500,000 and ₦250,000, respectively.
In addition, each local government’s winning team will get ₦30,000, and the best player of the tournament will also receive ₦30,000 in recognition of individual excellence.
Tournament Schedule
The competition started with local government qualifiers held from October 6 to 14. Winners from those matches will move on to the state-level knockout rounds.
The Round of 16 is scheduled for October 16, followed by the quarterfinals on October 21 and semifinals on October 23.
The grand finale will take place on October 28 at the Kayode Oluyemi Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, where the third-place and championship matches will be played.
Rising Legacy
Now in its third edition, the Agbeyewa Cup has grown into one of Ekiti State’s most anticipated youth sports events.
Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, won the maiden edition in 2023, while Omuo-Ore High School emerged champion in 2024. Organizers say this year’s competition has attracted more schools and better facilities than previous editions.
Sports enthusiasts in the state have praised the initiative, describing it as a platform that keeps students engaged and motivated.
“This is a great opportunity for young players to showcase their skills. Some of them could be future national stars,” said Adebayo Olaniyi, a local coach watching one of the opening games.
As matches continue across the 16 councils, expectations are high on which school will lift the 2025 trophy and claim the ₦1 million grand prize.
For Agbeyewa Farms, the goal remains clear — to combine sports, education, and community development in building a better future for Ekiti’s youth.
