The incident occurred earlier this week when the reporter, whose identity has been withheld pending family notification, was covering a story in a busy district of Lagos. According to police, the suspects ambushed the reporter, resulting in fatal injuries.

“The Federal Police Command has arrested key suspects involved in the robbery attack,” said Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police Chike Oti. “Investigations are ongoing, and we are committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice.”

CCTV footage released by the police shows a man believed to be one of the suspects fleeing the scene shortly after the attack. Authorities have urged members of the public with information to come forward.

The Police Command described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the investigation. “We are working around the clock to ensure those responsible are fully prosecuted. The safety of journalists and citizens is a top priority,” the spokesperson added.

Arise TV condemned the attack and expressed grief over the loss of their reporter. In a statement, the media house called for stronger security measures for journalists working in the field. “Our reporter was performing his duty to inform the public when this tragedy occurred. We urge the government to take urgent steps to protect journalists,” the statement said.

According to police sources, the suspects were apprehended after tracing mobile phone signals and examining surveillance cameras in the area. Some of the suspects are reportedly linked to a larger robbery syndicate operating in Lagos.

Journalists’ associations have expressed concern over the increasing attacks on media personnel. The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) said in a statement that the death of the Arise TV reporter underscores the urgent need for enhanced security for journalists. “Media workers face rising threats while performing their duties. The government must ensure our safety,” the NUJ said.

Residents in the area expressed shock over the violent incident. “It is tragic. We often see crime, but this time it targeted someone doing their job. It makes you worry about your own safety,” said Chinedu Okoro, a local shop owner.

Police officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and promised updates as more information becomes available. Authorities are also asking anyone with further CCTV footage or eyewitness accounts to contact the nearest police station.

The Federal Police Command reassured the public that all suspects apprehended will face prosecution under Nigeria’s criminal laws. The department stressed that attacks on journalists will not be tolerated and that justice will be pursued vigorously.
