Flying Eagles Crashed Out of U-20 World Cup After 4–0 Loss to Argentina

Published

SANTIAGO, Chile (Oct. 9, 2025) — Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, were knocked out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup after suffering a heavy 4–0 defeat to Argentina in their round of 16 clash on Wednesday night in Santiago.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The South American side showed their quality and dominance from start to finish, scoring twice in each half to seal a comfortable victory and book a place in the quarterfinals. Argentina’s aggressive pressing and swift counterattacks proved too much for coach Aliyu Zubairu’s team, who struggled to match their opponents’ pace and technical sharpness.

Argentina got off to a dream start in the second minute when Alejo Sarco opened the scoring, finishing from close range after Dylan Gorosito’s cross left Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezar Harcourt stranded. The early goal unsettled the Flying Eagles, who appeared nervous and disorganized in defense.

The pressure continued, and Argentina doubled their lead midway through the first half when Maher Carrizo curled a free kick into the bottom-right corner from just outside the box, leaving Harcourt with no chance.

Nigeria nearly found a lifeline before halftime when Daniel Daga controlled a loose ball inside the penalty area and struck a powerful volley toward goal. However, Argentine goalkeeper Santino Barbi produced a superb one-handed save to keep the Africans scoreless going into the break.

Argentina resumed the second half with even more confidence and precision. Their quick passing and pressing game forced errors from Nigeria’s midfield. In the 53rd minute, Milton Delgado dispossessed Daga near midfield and fed Carrizo, who calmly slotted home his second goal of the night and Argentina’s third.

The Flying Eagles’ defensive troubles deepened 13 minutes later when Mateo Silvetti received a crossfield pass, dribbled past Daniel Bameyi on the flank, and fired a curling shot beyond Harcourt to make it 4–0.

Despite multiple substitutions from Coach Zubairu — including Abduljelil Kamaldeen, Auwal Ibrahim, and Charles Agada — Nigeria failed to build any meaningful momentum. Their attacks lacked precision and coordination, and Argentina’s disciplined defense absorbed every threat with ease.

Late in the game, Nigeria created two half-chances through Kparobo Arierhi and Haruna Aliyu, but both failed to convert from promising positions.

The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of advancing further in the tournament, marking another disappointing World Cup campaign for the Flying Eagles, who had entered the competition with high expectations following a strong qualifying performance.

Argentina, meanwhile, will face the winner between Brazil and Japan in the quarterfinals as they continue their chase for a record-extending seventh U-20 World Cup title.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.

Published

on

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.

  • Call for Unity: The Minister urged Nigerians to prioritize national interest over partisan politics, noting that insecurity is not a tool for scoring political points.

  • Combating Misinformation: He raised alarm over the circulation of “fake and recycled” videos on social media—some dating back years or originating from other countries—which are falsely presented as current events to suggest worsening security under the Tinubu administration. He encouraged citizens to verify information before sharing it.
