Bl**d And Blame In Kwara: AbdulRazaq, Saraki Trade Fire Over Rising K!ll!ngs.
According to Nivo News, Kwara State has been thrown into a heated political storm as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, engage in a war of words over the rising wave of insecurity in the state. The verbal clash was triggered by the recent massacre in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, where bandits killed several residents and vigilante members, sparking outrage and blame-trading between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The PDP, in a strongly worded statement, accused Governor AbdulRazaq of failing to curb banditry and kidnapping, describing the killings as “a despicable and senseless act” that exposed what it called “monumental leadership failure.” The opposition further alleged that under the governor’s watch, rural communities had been abandoned to kidnappers, leaving residents in fear and forcing mass displacement.
In response, the governor’s media team dismissed the PDP’s claims, describing them as desperate attempts to rewrite history and trivialise the infamous 2018 Offa robbery. The government insisted that the PDP had left behind a bloody legacy of cultism, political thuggery, and impunity during its 16-year rule, stressing that the state was only liberated from Saraki’s grip in 2019. The governor’s aide further alleged that the vehicle used in the Offa robbery had direct links to Saraki, saying Kwara people had not forgotten the tragedy.
However, the Saraki Media Office swiftly countered, accusing AbdulRazaq of making reckless and defamatory insinuations. It faulted the governor for equating a one-off robbery with the recurring bandit attacks currently plaguing two senatorial districts, arguing that insecurity in Kwara has reached unprecedented levels under AbdulRazaq’s administration. Saraki’s camp said the governor had failed to show empathy, noting that he visited Oke-Ode five days after the massacre while prioritising political engagements outside the state.
The Saraki Media Office further reminded the public that official federal government reports had cleared the former Senate President of any link to the Offa robbery, condemning attempts to politicise the grief of the victims’ families. It also accused the governor of using the tragedy to score political points instead of focusing on the worsening insecurity across Edu, Patigi, Ifelodun, and other local government areas.
As both camps exchange accusations, analysts say the war of words risks further polarising the state at a time when citizens are demanding urgent and coordinated action to restore peace and security across Kwara.
