Outrage Erupts As Amotekun’s Masked Operatives Allegedly Kill Four, Injure 11 In Osun

Published

on

Residents of Akinlalu community in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State are reeling in grief and outrage after operatives of the Amotekun Corps allegedly stormed the town’s market square and killed four people, including three members of the same family. At least 11 others were left injured in the attack, which has triggered widespread condemnation and calls for justice.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to accounts from residents, the operatives, who were masked, invaded the town after a suspected thief earlier arrested at Aba-Oba village reportedly snatched a rifle from Amotekun personnel. In what locals described as a reprisal, the security outfit stormed Akinlalu the following day, shooting indiscriminately and leaving behind a trail of blood and sorrow.

Bereaved families spoke of their ordeal when visited by Nivo News. Chief Kamorudeen Oyebamiji, the Aro of Akinlalu, lost three of his children to the incident. “The hooded Amotekun corps killed my three children in a single day. Two were shot, and the other was hacked to death while trying to escape. They must bring back those corpses,” he lamented in tears.

Another resident, Nurudeen Adeabo, revealed how his house was riddled with bullets. He said one of his sons was killed, his daughter, a nursing mother, was shot in the thigh, and his son, a graduate, had his hand fractured by an axe. He himself was assaulted with the butt of a gun. Several other residents confirmed that victims were hacked or shot in broad daylight, including a 45-year-old stroke patient and market traders.

Community leaders and youths have condemned the silence of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing the state government of failing to act swiftly on the killings. The Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, Oba Oluwabusola Oloyede, denied Amotekun’s claim that those killed were bandits, stressing that the operatives attacked innocent residents at the market square and homes nearby. He confirmed that the Amotekun commander admitted authorising the invasion but lamented that the operatives bypassed the palace and unleashed terror on the town instead.

Civil society organisations have also weighed in, with Dialogue 365 describing the killings as barbaric and unjust. The group linked the tragedy to the appointment of Isaac Omoyele, a former SARS officer indicted by the #EndSARS panel for extrajudicial killings, as Amotekun commandant. They demanded his immediate arrest, insisting that “Amotekun turned themselves into militants.”

Political figures have begun to respond as well. Gubernatorial aspirant Bola Oyebamiji sent condolences to bereaved families and called on National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to order an urgent probe into the killings.

The community remains tense, with residents alleging threats of another invasion by the security corps. Families of the slain and injured are demanding accountability and justice for what they described as an unprovoked massacre in their town.
