Fubara Ends NULGE Strike, Restores Peace In Rivers Councils
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has successfully intervened in the labour dispute between the Emohua Local Government Area and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), leading to the suspension of a statewide strike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the face-off stemmed from the decision of Emohua Council Chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, to halt the salaries of about 300 workers in his council, a move that prompted NULGE to declare a seven-day warning strike across all 23 local government areas.
Governor Fubara was said to have summoned both Lloyd and the union leadership to a meeting at Government House, where he brokered a peace agreement between the two parties. Following the discussions, Lloyd expressed gratitude to the governor for his timely intervention, describing Fubara’s directives as decisive and transparent.
He commended the governor for ensuring harmony, stressing that the resolutions reached would soon be implemented, while also acknowledging NULGE’s leadership for urging workers to end the strike.
On his part, Rivers NULGE President, Clifford Paul, confirmed that the governor mandated a peaceful resolution of the matter. He instructed all members to return to work, assuring that the union was satisfied with the outcome.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Israel Amadi, also applauded the governor for his role in resolving the crisis, pledging full implementation of the decisions reached and commending both parties for their cooperation.
