In a recent conversation, the comic star admitted that his rise to prominence was far from easy, as he had to leave his comfort zone, endure struggles, and embrace challenges that ultimately defined his growth. He recalled moving from his uncle’s home in Orile to stay with his aunt in Ebute Meta, Lagos, just to be closer to performance opportunities, even though the living conditions were less convenient.
Seyi Law further explained that his pursuit of recognition took him beyond Lagos to several universities, where he sought platforms to showcase his craft at social events. He narrated how he and fellow comedian Emeka Smith often traveled without accommodation plans, sometimes sleeping in study theatres, finding places to shower in the morning, and repeating the routine until they got the chance to perform. According to Nivo News, these experiences shaped his resilience and passion for comedy, with performances at institutions such as Obafemi Awolowo University, the University of Ibadan, Olabisi Onabanjo University, UNILAG, and LASU becoming key milestones.
He recalled one memorable outing at LASU’s law dinner, where popular singer 9ice was billed to perform, and he ended up backing the artiste on stage.
Beyond his personal sacrifices, Seyi Law expressed pride in mentoring younger entertainers, a gesture inspired by comedy veteran Ali Baba. He revealed that he had once accommodated several upcoming comedians in his apartment, supporting them until they found their footing. He also disclosed that some musicians got their first international exposure through his shows abroad, citing Kizz Daniel, Adekunle Gold, and Woli Arole as beneficiaries.
Reflecting on the journey, Seyi Law noted, “It’s been 20 years and there have been a lot of sacrifices to get to where I am today. But when success comes, you often forget the sacrifices. Like they say, a day of joy erases years of sorrow.”
