Nigeria Flags Off Construction of Access Road to ILS 02 and 03
Federal government on Saturday flagged off the construction of an access road linking Instrument Landing System (ILS) sites 02 and 03, a project aimed at improving aviation safety and boosting infrastructure around the nation’s airports.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The groundbreaking ceremony, led by top officials of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, took place at the project site and marked the start of work on the long-awaited road. The access route is expected to enhance connectivity to critical navigation facilities that guide aircraft during landing, especially in poor weather conditions.
According to officials, the project is part of broader efforts to modernize aviation infrastructure and ensure that Nigeria meets global safety standards. The access road will also provide quicker movement of technical staff and equipment to the ILS facilities, which are vital for smooth flight operations.
Aviation Minister [Insert Name] described the construction as “a step forward in strengthening Nigeria’s air navigation services.” He said the government is determined to remove obstacles that slow down air operations and to make airports safer for both passengers and airlines.
“The ILS sites are critical for flight safety. By constructing this road, we are not only improving access for maintenance and emergency response but also raising the reliability of our navigation systems,” the minister said at the event.
The ILS 02 and 03 are part of a network of systems that guide aircraft to safe landings at major airports across the country. In the past, poor road access has delayed maintenance teams and made it difficult to respond quickly when faults occurred, officials explained.
The new road project will be executed by [Insert Contractor/Company Name], with funding from the federal government. Work is scheduled to be completed within [Insert Duration, e.g., 12 months], barring weather or technical delays.
Stakeholders in the aviation industry welcomed the move, noting that it will improve Nigeria’s compliance with international aviation regulations. “This development shows government’s commitment to safety and infrastructure,” said [Insert Expert/Stakeholder Name], an aviation analyst. “Reliable access to ILS facilities reduces risks and ensures smoother operations at airports.”
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requires member states to maintain navigational aids at high standards. Nigeria has faced past challenges in this area, with incidents of faulty or poorly maintained systems raising safety concerns. Officials say the new road will help end those issues by allowing faster and more efficient access to technicians.
Airlines operating in Nigeria are also expected to benefit, as improved navigation systems reduce delays, flight cancellations, and risks associated with poor visibility landings. Passengers, in turn, may experience safer and more reliable air travel.
The flag-off ceremony closed with assurances from the government that more aviation projects are underway, including the upgrade of runways, terminals, and communication equipment.
“This is only the beginning,” the minister said. “Our goal is to make Nigerian aviation not only safe but competitive on the global stage.”

Momodu Questions Tinubu’s Commitment to Free and Fair Elections
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has expressed doubts about President Tinubu’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections in 2027, claiming that even some of the President’s supporters harbour similar concerns.
reports that the veteran journalist made the remarks during an interview on Arise News’ Prime Time programme.
Momodu alleged that some Nigerians fear Tinubu might be unwilling to relinquish power if he loses the next presidential election.
He, however, insisted that Nigerians would resist any attempt by the President to remain in office after an electoral defeat.
The ADC chieftain further claimed that some governors elected on the APC platform, alongside judges and legislators, were apprehensive about the possible outcome of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the interview, Momodu said many Nigerians would question whether Tinubu could be trusted to oversee a credible and transparent electoral process.
He argued that some supporters of the President were confident of victory but, according to him, struggled to explain the basis for their optimism beyond their belief in Tinubu’s political influence.
Momodu also maintained that his confidence in the opposition’s efforts was not based solely on his party, but on what he described as the growing determination of ordinary Nigerians who do not want Tinubu to secure another term.
He recalled Tinubu’s political struggle to win a second term as governor of Lagos State, suggesting that opposition figures were also working behind the scenes to challenge his bid for re-election as President.
The ADC chieftain added that some political figures who publicly support Tinubu were allegedly concerned about the current political climate but were reluctant to express their reservations openly.
He concluded by describing the President’s position within the political establishment as one that many were unwilling to challenge directly.
Momodu’s remarks reflect his personal assessment of the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections and his criticism of the Tinubu administration.
