The artist, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, revealed the story while speaking about his journey before finding success in music and business. He said he borrowed the money from his uncle to start the venture but lost it all within three months.

“At 19 I borrowed ₦19 million from my uncle to go into the diesel business,” Mr. Eazi said. “Three months later the business crashed and I lost the whole ₦19 million.”

The loss was a major setback for the young entrepreneur. Mr. Eazi explained that he tried to supply diesel to companies but was unprepared for the risks involved. The business collapsed after a series of challenges, leaving him with nothing to pay back.

Despite the failure, Mr. Eazi said the experience shaped his mindset and prepared him for future success. He later found his path in music and business, building a career that has made him one of Africa’s most successful independent artists.

Mr. Eazi is known for his hit songs such as Leg Over and Skin Tight, and for pioneering the Banku music sound. He is also the founder of emPawa Africa, a talent incubation project that supports young African musicians with funding, mentorship and promotion.

Speaking about his past struggles, he said losing the money taught him resilience and the importance of taking lessons from failure. “That experience was painful, but it gave me strength. I learned that failure is part of the process,” he said.

Financial experts say stories like this highlight the risks young people face when going into business without enough preparation or knowledge. Nigeria’s business environment, especially in the oil and energy sector, is known for being competitive and unpredictable.

Despite his early setback, Mr. Eazi has built a reputation as both an artist and an investor. He has invested in technology startups, real estate, and creative industries across Africa. His journey is often cited as an example of turning failure into success.

Fans reacted on social media with admiration for his honesty. Many praised him for openly sharing a story that could inspire young entrepreneurs who may be struggling. Others said his story shows that failure does not have to define the future.

Today, Mr. Eazi continues to use his platform to promote African talent and business opportunities. His success, despite losing ₦19 million at such a young age, is seen as proof that perseverance and learning from mistakes can lead to greater achievements.
