BBNaija Season 10 Housemates Win Wager with Yoruba Cultural Performances
Housemates of Big Brother Naija Season 10 won their weekly wager on Saturday after delivering solo performances that celebrated Yoruba culture and Nigerian heritage.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The “Flying Solo” task required each contestant to stage an individual act. The housemates chose to highlight traditions from Oyo State and Lagos Island, blending history, music, and storytelling into their presentations.
Imisi Ayanwale and Kola Omotoso earned loud applause for their performances. Ayanwale’s chant and drumming evoked the spirit of Oyo’s royal courts, while Omotoso narrated stories about Oyo’s kings and warriors. Koyin Sanusi also stood out by portraying the Eyo masquerade, a cultural symbol of Lagos, alongside vivid re-creations of the city’s busy markets.
Big Brother praised the contestants for teamwork and creativity, declaring them winners of the wager. The victory secures them extra food and privileges for the week.
The showcase quickly spread beyond the house. Clips of the performances trended online, drawing more than 286,000 engagements on X, formerly known as Twitter, within hours. Fans praised the contestants for promoting Nigerian culture on a popular entertainment platform.
Celebrities also joined the conversation. Actress Eniola Badmus described the performances as “a proud moment for Yoruba heritage,” while TV host Uti Nwachukwu wrote that the housemates had “reminded us of the richness of our roots.”
Cultural experts said the task demonstrated how reality television can influence public appreciation of heritage. “When young people see their peers celebrate tradition, it creates a bridge between modern life and history,” said Folake Adeyemi, a Lagos-based historian.
Big Brother Naija, known as BBNaija, is one of Africa’s most-watched reality shows, with millions of viewers across Nigeria and the diaspora. The Season 10 edition has focused on tasks that test creativity and endurance while also reflecting Nigerian identity.
The Yoruba performances come at a time when cultural preservation has been a national discussion. Nigeria’s federal and state governments have encouraged schools and media platforms to promote local languages and traditions in response to concerns about globalization and cultural loss.
For many viewers, the wager win carried more than just entertainment value. “It was emotional to see the contestants celebrate Yoruba music and storytelling in front of the world,” said Toyin Ajayi, a fan watching from Ibadan. “It makes us proud of who we are.”
The housemates’ success also highlighted the growing influence of BBNaija as a cultural stage, not just a reality competition. Analysts note that by merging entertainment with heritage, the show deepens its impact beyond ratings and social media trends.
With their victory, the contestants now turn to their next challenge. But for many Nigerians, the highlight will remain the night Yoruba chants, drums, and masquerades took center stage inside the famous Big Brother house.
