Lagos APC Fires Back At Obasanjo Over Alleged Critique Of Tinubu’s Leadership

Published

on

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s claim that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is rivaling the late Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in incompetence, describing the statement as “laughable and disgracefully hypocritical.” The rebuttal, contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, comes in response to Obasanjo’s recent book, Nigeria: Past and Future, in which he reviewed the country’s leaders since independence and labeled Buhari’s administration the “worst civil administration regime” in Nigerian history.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obasanjo further asserted in the book, “Only Bola Tinubu’s administration seems to be competing with Buhari’s for now.”

In response, the Lagos APC argued that Obasanjo lacked the moral authority to judge any sitting leader. “It is ironic that a man whose tenure is remembered for political arrogance, squandered opportunities, and attempts at democratic subversion would have the audacity to label anyone incompetent,” the statement read.

Oladejo highlighted Tinubu’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, and efforts to address inefficiencies, describing them as bold measures that previous administrations, including Obasanjo’s, “either broke or ignored.”

The party accused the former president of bitterness, alleging that his repeated attacks on sitting presidents reflect resentment that Nigeria has moved beyond his “egocentric, do-or-die politics.” The statement also criticized Obasanjo’s tenure, citing alleged corruption, mismanagement of power sector funds, a rise in foreign debt, and the controversial third-term agenda.

Advising Obasanjo to “show some decorum” befitting his status as an elder, Oladejo said, “Elders are expected to advise, not agitate.”

Reiterating support for Tinubu, the Lagos APC stressed that the president is focused on reforms rather than competition. “President Tinubu is not in a race with Obasanjo or anyone else. Nigeria is on a path of reform, recovery, and renewal, and no amount of potshots from yesterday’s bitter men will derail that journey,” the statement added.

The party concluded by emphasizing that the structural challenges facing Nigeria predate Buhari and are not being exacerbated under Tinubu, noting that Obasanjo bears responsibility for a significant portion of the country’s historical challenges.

The encounter unfolded as follows:

  • The event took an unexpected turn when a junior secondary school student stood up and directly challenged him, asking why he failed to keep his promises.

  • The question immediately shifted the tone of the meeting, causing the audience to fall silent and focus intently on the issue.

  • Rather than dismissing the girl’s complaint, Obi chose to investigate the matter.

  • He discovered that her school had been promised repairs and facility improvements that had not yet been executed.

  • Following this realization, he took immediate action to ensure the repairs were completed.

Obi noted that this experience served as a significant lesson on the importance of leadership and accountability.
