FG Hands Off EFCC, ICPC: Justice Minister Breaks Silence On Interference Allegations
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has rejected claims that the Federal Government meddles in the work of anti-corruption agencies, affirming that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) function without interference.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Thursday during a management retreat of the Federal Ministry of Justice in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Fagbemi said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to strengthening the autonomy of the agencies to ensure they perform optimally.
According to Nivo News, Fagbemi explained that the Ministry of Justice only becomes involved after the investigative agencies have completed their work, at which stage the ministry reviews the findings to identify any gaps or areas requiring further inquiry.
“We do not interfere in investigations carried out by anti-graft bodies. They are well structured and fully equipped to handle such cases—that is why they exist,” he stated. “Once they conclude their investigations, we take over to evaluate the legal process and determine whether additional steps are needed.”
He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution already guarantees the independence of both EFCC and ICPC, making any government interference unlawful. Fagbemi added that President Tinubu’s administration remains resolute in its anti-corruption campaign, describing it as essential to driving national development and improving critical infrastructure.
“The Tinubu government is determined to fight corruption to a standstill so as to create room for growth and the delivery of vital infrastructure,” he said.
