The 33-year-old Egyptian forward spearheaded Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, topping the league scoring charts with 29 goals and providing 18 assists. His stellar displays also earned him the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year accolades.

Reflecting on his rise from humble beginnings in Nagrig to global superstardom, Salah revealed his early ambitions were modest. “I wanted to be a footballer, to be famous, to provide for my family,” he said. “But when you grow, you start to see the bigger picture, to have ambition and aim for something greater.”

Salah edged out competition from Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named PFA Young Player of the Year after an impressive spell under Unai Emery. The 23-year-old, who moved from Middlesbrough in February 2024, scored 14 goals in 54 appearances, helping Villa secure a sixth-place league finish alongside strong runs in Europe and the FA Cup. Rogers, who earned his first England senior call-up last year, said he is determined to emulate legends like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney. “It’s great recognition, but there’s more to win. I want to become one of those players people talk about for years,” he told BBC Sport.

In other awards, James Trafford was named Championship Player of the Year after keeping 29 clean sheets with Burnley, while Richard Kone (League One) and Michael Cheek (League Two) claimed honors in the lower divisions. Former England manager Gareth Southgate received the PFA Merit Award in recognition of his eight-year tenure with the national team, guiding the Three Lions to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.

The PFA Team of the Year featured a strong Liverpool and Arsenal presence, with Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch included alongside Arsenal’s Declan Rice, William Saliba and Gabriel. Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood and goalkeeper Matz Sels earned surprise spots, joined by Newcastle’s Isak and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki is reportedly throwing his support behind President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambitions, despite serving as a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) within Kwara State. This political dynamic came to light when Saliu Mustapha, the Senator representing Kwara Central, addressed the issue during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.                                                                                                               When questioned about whether his own switch from the All Progressives Congress to the PDP implied an alignment with Saraki, Mustapha acknowledged Saraki’s stature as the state PDP leader but pointed out that the former governor is not pursuing any elective office himself.                                                                                                                                                       According to the Kwara lawmaker, Saraki is backing the broader political framework known as the Rainbow Coalition, which is aligned with bolstering President Tinubu’s re-election prospects. Mustapha drew a parallel between Saraki’s current political positioning and that of other prominent figures within the opposition landscape who maintain complex alignments regarding the federal administration. Furthermore, Mustapha emphasized that his own transition into the PDP should not be misconstrued as an automatic posture of hostility toward the sitting presidency, underscoring the fluid and strategic nature of political alliances as various stakeholders position themselves ahead of future political engagements.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
