Former Sokoto Governor Tambuwal Regains Freedom After EFCC Interrogation

According to Nivo News, Tambuwal, who previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and governed Sokoto State for eight years, voluntarily appeared at the EFCC headquarters around 11:16 a.m. on Monday in response to an invitation by the anti-graft agency. He was subsequently taken into custody for further questioning.
Photographs of Tambuwal circulating on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday evening prompted reactions from his supporters. One user, Emma Umeh, wrote: “Sen Tambuwal is back home. Thank you Nigerians for standing against the oppression of the APC.”
Sources within the EFCC clarified that Tambuwal was not formally arrested but was held after he failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the alleged ₦189 billion withdrawals, which investigators claim contravened the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
“He wasn’t arrested as some reports suggested. He was only asked to explain what the ₦189 billion was used for, but he couldn’t account for it. So, he was taken into custody until he could provide meaningful answers,” an official disclosed, adding that the funds could have made significant impact in Sokoto State or the country at large.
