No More Patching! Ezekwesili Demands Complete Overhaul of Nigeria’s Constitution

Former Education Minister and CEO of Human Capital Africa, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly criticised the National Assembly’s ongoing constitutional amendment process, describing it as a wasteful and deceptive exercise that fails to address Nigeria’s foundational problems.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Thursday during her keynote address titled “Reworking Nigeria’s Federalism: Perspectives on Restructuring and Fiscal Federalism” at the 7th Penpushing Anniversary and Annual Lecture in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Ezekwesili said the current political structure has been hijacked by what she termed a “criminal enterprise gang” whose interests now override the well-being of ordinary citizens.

She dismissed the amendment efforts as inadequate and cosmetic, warning that only a completely new, people-driven constitution—one that ensures equity, justice, and true devolution of powers—can resolve Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges, including insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and separatist agitations.

“The ongoing constitutional amendment cannot fix Nigeria. It is a charade and an outright misuse of public funds,” she declared. “What we need is not patchwork reforms but a total overhaul—a new constitution. This is a matter of life and death.”

Using a structural engineering analogy, Ezekwesili argued that repairing a nation built on a defective foundation is pointless. “When an engineer says a building’s foundation is faulty, you don’t just try minor fixes—you pull it down and rebuild. Anything less puts lives at risk. That’s exactly our situation,” she said.

She further called on the Nigerian media to lead the charge for constitutional transformation, urging journalists and media houses to champion public discourse on the need for a comprehensive national dialogue and a new constitutional framework.

“The media must take the driver’s seat in demanding a new constitution that reflects the collective aspirations of Nigerians. We need a national conversation—one that’s honest, inclusive, and focused on building a nation that works for everyone,” Ezekwesili concluded.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
