N3.6bn Greenlighted! Soludo’s Government Rolls Out Ambitious Roads, Schools, Power Projects

According to a press release issued Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the approvals were made during the 17th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held on Monday, July 30, at the “Light House” Government House in Awka.
Among the major decisions reached was the restoration of “Abakaliki Street”, which had been controversially renamed “Club Road” in 2018. Mefor said the move was intended to correct what the council described as “a historic mistake” and reaffirm the symbolic unity of the Igbo people, emphasizing that administrative boundaries should not define ethnic identity.
“The Council resolved to restore the name ‘Abakaliki Street’ as part of efforts to preserve its historical relevance and promote the oneness of the Igbo ethnic group,” Mefor stated.
On infrastructure, the commissioner noted that the power project for the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City is nearing completion—a key step toward operationalizing the Anambra Industrial Park, which is expected to attract major investment.
Details of the newly approved contracts include:

Construction of the 3.2km Nri–Agbanagbo–Nimo Road, awarded to Lebtech Construction at a cost of ₦1.65 billion.
