Crisis Unborn but Growing – APC Faces Internal Disaster, Says Ex-Minister”

Published

on

Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has predicted an intensifying internal crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that the party could face unprecedented instability in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with The Guardian, Dalung said the APC is “pregnant with more crises than any other political party” in Nigeria, citing growing internal divisions, controversial leadership changes, and strategic power plays as signs of looming turmoil.

He contrasted this with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he said had already resolved key issues — including its presidential candidature — before consolidating as a united political force, adding that “nothing will stop the party from emerging victorious.”

Dalung pointed to the recent removal of APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and efforts to court Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former NNPP presidential candidate, as part of a calculated strategy to preserve the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2027. However, he argued that these moves are triggering fresh divisions within the party rather than strengthening it.

“There will be more crises in the APC than in any other political party,” Dalung declared. “They’ve turned Nigeria into a near one-party state, but the diverse ambitions and interests within the APC will soon tear it apart.”

“You can see the realignment already — Ganduje was removed to pave the way for Kwankwaso, and Nentawe Yilwatda was brought in as chairman to consolidate the Muslim-Muslim agenda. But this is only fueling fragmentation,” he added.

Dalung claimed that the ADC is strategically waiting to benefit from an eventual implosion within the APC. “We are watching and praying,” he said, “because once the APC collapses, we are ready to harvest the fallout, organise, and reposition Nigeria for real progress.”

He also criticized governors who defect from other parties without the support of their base. “Look at the governors of Akwa Ibom and Delta — they left their people behind in the PDP. If the PDP fails to resolve its internal issues, many of those left behind will naturally move to the ADC,” he said.

Dalung emphasized that the ADC had already addressed the issue of candidacy before unifying, stressing that its priority is tackling Nigeria’s problems — not promoting individual political ambitions.
