The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 distinguished lawyers to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The approval was granted on Thursday at the end of the LPPC’s 169th Plenary Session held in Abuja under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere‑Ekun.

According to reports, out of the 57 appointees, 56 were elevated in the advocates’ category, while one academic, Prof. Chima Ubanyionwu, made the list in the scholarly category.

Notably, only two women were among those honoured this year: Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo‑Okusanya, Chairperson of the NBA 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme.

The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, confirmed the development in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja after the session.

“The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is a mark of professional excellence, conferred on legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction—either as courtroom advocates or as academics contributing significantly to the development of legal scholarship,” the statement read.

Akanbi further disclosed that three petitions filed against certain applicants were carefully reviewed and found to be without merit, leading to their dismissal.

In line with directives from the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all shortlisted candidates must attend and successfully complete the Pre‑Swearing‑In Induction Programme before being formally conferred with the rank.

The 57 new SANs will officially be sworn in by the CJN on Monday, 29th September 2025.
