Career Leap! Over 238 Senior Police Officers Promoted as PSC Reshapes Top Command

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 238 senior police officers across various ranks in a sweeping advancement exercise.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Among those elevated are 12 Commissioners of Police who have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

According to a statement released on Monday by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, the promotions cut across state commands, special units, and key departments, including Intelligence, Anti-Fraud, and Eastern Ports Operations.

Ani highlighted that the list includes the serving Commissioners of Police in Oyo, Jigawa, Taraba, and the FCID Zonal Command in Gombe, among others.

The statement read in part:

“The 12 Commissioners of Police promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police are:
Johnson Oluwole Adenola, CP Oyo State and former Principal Staff Officer to the IGP;
Ako Benedict Gabriel, CP Anti-Fraud;
Ahmadu Tijani Abdullahi, CP Jigawa State;
Emmanuel Adegbola Aina, Acting AIG Intelligence;
Omolara Ibidun Oloruntola;
Hassan Abdu Yababet, CP Police College Jos;
Bretet Emmanuel Simon, CP Taraba;
Enyinnaya Inonachi Adiogu, CP FCID Gombe Zonal Command;
Aminu Baba Raji, CP Special Unit FCID Alagbon;
Mohammed Mu’azu Usman, CP Eastern Ports Port Harcourt;
Festus Chinedu Oko, Acting AIG DLS Department, Force Headquarters; and
Ronke Nurat Okunade, Special Fraud Unit FCID Annex Lagos.”

The PSC further promoted 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP), while 27 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Ani added that the promotions span command administration units, area commands, and police training colleges across the country.

He also noted that 145 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), covering both general duty officers and specialists such as airwing personnel, medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, nurses, priests, and aircraft engineers.

“One Assistant Commissioner of Police was absent during the exercise and, as a result, was not promoted,” Ani clarified.

These latest promotions mark another milestone in the PSC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership and professional depth of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen climate resilience, tackle environmental degradation, and promote sustainable land use in the state.

Speaking at the ACReSAL mid-term review meeting in Kaduna through the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abubakar Buba, the governor explained that the use of geospatial tools has made it possible to accurately identify affected areas for targeted intervention.

He added that the project is not only focused on land recovery but also on boosting agricultural output and improving livelihoods in affected communities.

According to him, the effort is already helping to reduce dependence on firewood while creating alternative sources of income for beneficiaries.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
