Governor Sani made this known on Monday while receiving the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Ahmad Aminu, who paid him a courtesy visit at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
The governor applauded President Tinubu for granting the college a provisional operating licence, enabling it to function as a private postgraduate university dedicated to petroleum and energy studies.
Commending the President’s commitment to building local capacity in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, Sani said:
“We cannot make progress in a fast‑changing and complex society if we fail to develop local capacity.
This college, if well supported, has the potential to develop the manpower that will transform Nigeria’s petroleum industry.”
Sani assured the PTDF team of Kaduna State’s full support for the upcoming commissioning, promising to assist the institution in achieving its mandate:
“Kindly approach the Kaduna State Government for any assistance required to ensure the smooth running of this important institution,” he said.
He described the establishment of the college as a milestone not only for Kaduna State but also for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, noting that Kaduna is now positioned to play a more strategic role in driving innovation, research, and capacity development in the energy sector.
Earlier, Aminu briefed the governor on preparations for the college’s takeoff and the planned enrolment of its first cohort of students in September 2025.
He confirmed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has licensed the institution to run as a private postgraduate university, starting with 19 academic programmes across six departments in three faculties:
-
Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications Technology
-
Faculty of Earth and Applied Sciences
-
Faculty of Energy Law and Management Sciences
Aminu also revealed that the PTDF has received 3,702 applications for the Split‑Site PhD Programme, with screening and interviews ongoing, and that successful candidates will soon be admitted into the pioneer set of programmes.
