Lagos Raises the Bar: Truckers Face Fresh ₦10,000 E‑Call Up Enforcement
The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with key transport and oil sector stakeholders, has agreed to enforce a ₦10,000 electronic call-up (e-call up) fee for trucks operating along the Lekki–Epe corridor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Details of the agreement were outlined in a communiqué obtained by The PUNCH on Thursday, following a high-level meeting held at Dangote Oil Refining Ltd.
The document was co-signed by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi; NUPENG President, Williams Akporcha; NARTO President, Alhaji Yusuf Othman; and IPMAN President, Alhaji Hammed Fasola.
The meeting, convened by the Lagos State Government and facilitated by Dangote Industries Ltd, focused on strategies to manage heavy truck movement in the rapidly growing Lekki-Epe axis.
According to the communiqué, full enforcement of the e-call-up system will begin on August 1, 2025. In preparation, all truck operators are required to commence onboarding before the deadline.
Additional agreed measures include:
-
A robust sensitisation campaign for union members and truck drivers.
-
Uploading of only approved truck lists.
-
Strict restriction of trucks without verified business within the Lekki Free Zone.
Stakeholders underscored the need for collaborative implementation to ensure smooth compliance and avoid confrontations. The communiqué urged unions—NUPENG, NARTO, IPMAN, and others—to play active roles in promoting adherence among their members.
The Lagos Government stressed that the e-call-up system is necessary to prevent the traffic gridlock crisis that once plagued Apapa, especially in response to rising concerns from Lekki residents over increased accidents involving articulated vehicles.
Currently, seven truck parks have been approved and equipped within the corridor. These parks feature critical infrastructure including paved grounds, CCTV surveillance, restrooms, and lodges for drivers.
The ₦10,000 fee, the communiqué noted, covers operational costs such as parking, logistics, technology, and enforcement—with no financial benefit accruing to the Lagos State Government.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the collective commitment of all parties to ensure the successful implementation of the system across the Lekki-Epe corridor and the adjoining Deep Sea Port.
